Primary contact point for the public to request motor vehicle and traffic safety information or report problems with equipment such as air bags, brakes, or child safety seats that could affect safety. Obtains information from the motoring public about vehicle or vehicle equipment problems that may warrant a formal safety defect investigation to provide the public with timely information concerning motor vehicle safety, such as recall information on a manufacturer's vehicle or child safety seat, and to provide general information on a wide range of vehicle and highway safety.
